Trolley Station Restoration Help Needed

The Rochester & Eastern Rapid Railway Trolley Station and grounds need work early in 2015 to prepare it for the dedication next summer.

There are several community organizations we need to thank and acknowledge. We are most indebted to the Fishers Fire District for permitting us to locate the station on District property. They have been very supportive of our efforts while working on and maintaining this tangible piece of our local history. We also thank Victor Parks and Recreation for their help with preparing the site. We thank Victor Hiking Trails for assisting with clearing the site and allowing us to share the trolley station with everyone who uses the Auburn Trail.

Annual Meeting

The Annual Meeting of the Friends of the Railroad will be held at the Victor Town Hall, Main Meeting Room, 85 East Main Street, Victor, NY, at 7:00 pm on January 29, 2015.

The meeting will feature a presentation by Mr. David Coon on “The History of Railroads in Ontario County”. Mr. Coon is President of the Rochester Model Railroad Club, Trustee of the New York Museum of Transportation, and member of the Rochester & Genessee Railroad. The public is invited to attend. There will be a short business meeting prior to the program. Light refreshments will be served.

Shelter 116 print

In December 2009, the Giancursio family generously gifted Rochester & Eastern Rapid Railway Waiting Shelter #116 to the Friends of the Railroad. Volunteers started restoring the shelter in May 2011. You can help us with the restoration with your generous donation. Donors of $100 or more will receive a signed and numbered print of the shelter. The Rochester & Eastern Rapid Railway

The Rochester & Eastern Rapid Railway provided high-speed electric interurban service from Rochester to Geneva, through Victor and Canandaigua.

The Comstock, Haigh & Walker Company of Detroit started construction in 1902 north of Canandaigua and regular service between Canandaigua and Victor began later that year. The line officially opened on June 15, 1904 with 14 cars providing hourly service. The R&E’s express car service, the Orange Limited, travelled from Rochester to Geneva in less than 1 hour, 30 minutes. In 1904 this was very fast indeed.
